| | Picking Peas | | Yesterday, when the heat index was 105, can you imagine? We were in the pea field picking peas, for $10.00 a bushel. That was the cheapest that we could get them, and i told my sister, that i was sure they would not last long at that price. We loaded up the pickup, with wet towels, ice and ice chest, drinks, and buckets for picking peas in. It was my sisters idea to use the wet towels on our backs, and to wear caps and hats. Well let me tell you, even with the high heat index, those wet towels were really doing thier job, as well as the hats. | |
| | When you go camping do you use a tent or a camper? | | We always use tents, with our many ice chest, coleman stove, lanterns, folding tables, lawn chairs, decks of cards, and board games. We have a boat that we use to fish, ski, and suba dive, and then at night if we are not night fishing we play games. My parents had a camper and I always thought that a camper is not really camping. Camping is suppose to be roughing it, and bringing the family closer together because there is no TV, or plug ins for your Xbox, Wii, or anything else. So how about you what do you use to go camping? | |
| | Pictures My Dad Gave Me | |
It’s funny, sometimes, how your brain works; how memories seem to act like a video camera where you can see vividly, the movies of the past. However, the brain can also act like a still camera, where life’s moments are caught like a snapshot which will be forever ingrained in a “Psychic Picture Album of Life.” I would now like to open this album and share some of the snapshots my Dad gave me. My video camera will set the scene and at the moment when the picture becomes clearest you will know when the snapshot of life takes place.Miami, Florida was, at one time, a great town in which to live. The scene takes place in Myrick’s trailer park. It was all we could afford at the time. The neighborhood had been experiencing some trouble with a Peeping Tom which no one was able to apprehend. I had just come from my room at the back of the trailer and headed toward the kitchen for something to eat. It was pitch dark outside. Mom was standing at the kitchen sink preparing to cook. It was hot that night and for some reason the kitchen window was opened and didn’t even have a screen on it:
Mama screams, Daddy runs, Daddy Dives out the window and just as his feet hang suspended over the...
| | With rising fuel costs, what money saving tips do you have for summer vacation? | | We love to travel, visiting new places and meeting new people. With rising fuel costs, summer vacation may be non-existant this year. We are usually frugal when we travel with only the occasional extravagant itinerary, but this year we will have to REALLY cut back in order to go anywhere.
On a frugal trip, we never leave home without our ice chest. I freeze 2 liter bottles filled with flavored tea, water, and other non-staining drinks. Because we are trying to live a greener lifestyle, we also each have our own to-go cup for the trip. The frozen bottles help to keep our other food chilled, without having the mess of ice melting. Taking our own drinks beats paying $1.59 x 3 people a couple of times a day. We could almost buy a couple more gallons of gasoline with those savings...haha!
| | The OLD MILK BOTTLE. | | Are you old enough to remember the old glass milk bottles, with the alum lids and before that the cardboard ones(lids).I know Im old, Let me tell you about them. That was milk before they played with it.(another story). If it sat (the milk) for any time the CREAM would settle on top of the milk.As a Kid you would get the bottle out of the ice chest (see I am old) and take the lid off it and drink, all our mum's would get upset as we had drank all the cream off the milk,What was left is what we now call SKIM MILK. (good for slimmers) | |
| | Big God | | Two men went fishing. One was an experienced fisherman, the other wasn't.
Every time the experienced fisherman caught a big fish, he put it in his icechest to keep it fresh. Whenever the inexperienced fisherman caught a big
fish, he threw it back. The experienced fisherman watched this go on all day and finally got tired
of seeing the man waste good fish. "Why do you keep throwing back all the
big fish you catch?" he asked. The inexperienced fisherman replied, "I only have a small frying pan."Sometimes, like that fisherman, we throwback the big plans, big dreams, big
jobs, big opportunities that God gives us. Our faith is too small. We laugh at that fisherman who didn't figure out that all he needed was a
bigger frying pan, yet how ready are we to increase the size of our faith? Whether it's a problem or a possibility, God will never give you anything
bigger than you can handle. That means we can confidently walk into anythingGod brings our way.You can do all things through God. Nothing is too big for God. REMEMBER:Stop telling God you've got big problems.
Tell your problems you've got a BIG GOD!
